Questions and Answers
How do I apply?
The best way to ensure you are on our waiting list is to email office@nbcp.org.nz with your contact details, how old your child is and how many days you need care for them.
Otherwise you can fill out the following link: Enquire at NBC Preschool
What age can my child start?
Children can start with us from age 9 months old, however we do recommend going on our waitlist early to avoid disappointment.
What is your Enrolment procedure?
Our Centre offers 4 and 5 day enrolments for tamariki from 9 months to 6 years of age, between 8am to 5pm, or 845am - 315pm.
Once you have contacted us and registered your interest we will be in touch once there is a suitable space to offer. From there we will arrange a centre tour to answer any questions, and continue the enrolment process.
Transition visits - once the space has been accepted your child’s teacher will contact you to organise transition visits to to familiarise the child with their kaiako, environment and room routines (meal and play times). During this time, parents are strongly encouraged to discuss their child’s own routines, interests and capabilities with their teachers.
These visits are for an approximate two week period for 1-2 hours per day, where a parent or guardian will be required to stay onsite with the child throughout. These visits are free of charge. Once their teachers are satisfied that the child is happy, ready and settled they will confirm the start date with the parents.
Enrolment requirements - this must be completed before your child starts. A good time to bring these all in is during the transition period. To complete an enrolment at NBCP we will require:
The enrolment form filled out
Our cyber safety consent form filled out
Your child’s original birth certificate or original passport
A payment of one week’s fees as a non-refundable deposit to hold their space. This will then be used to pay your child’s first week’s fees.
Changes to enrolment - We would appreciate at least one week’s notice in writing for any requested changes to enrolment (subject to availability). This needs to be sent to the administrator at admin@nbcp.org.nz
We require one month’s notice in writing before withdrawing tamariki from the centre. This must be sent to the Centre Director at office@nbcp.org.nz.
Our Waitlist - Please note that our Koru room (under 2yr) normally has a waitlist. We recommend prospective parents reach out sooner rather than later.
If a child begins after they are 2 years old it is expected that they have started toilet training.
What are your teacher / child ratios?
We have above average kaiako/tamariki ratios in all of our rooms.
Each NBCP child is assigned a key kaiako, who will get to know you and your child so that they can develop a curriculum for your individual child’s growth and learning alongside you.
What if my child is unwell?
It’s important to keep tamariki at home when they are unwell to help them recover quickly and to prevent the spread of illness to others. Please plan to care for your child at home if they are sick.
We ask that you notify their kaiako if your child is absent due to illness, and specifically if they have a contagious condition (e.g. chickenpox, conjunctivitis, etc.)
Please note that normal fees apply during periods of absence due to sickness or other reasons.
If your child falls ill while at preschool, they and a kaiako will wait in a safe space until you pick them up as soon as possible. We would appreciate it if your mobile is accessible so that we may reach you quickly and that our centre mobile number is saved to your phones.
What are your fees?
You can request our current fees from reception or at admin@nbcp.org.nz
All fees include morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea and are due a week in advance.
We do not charge fees when we are closed. No fees are charged for weekends, public holidays, one week in the July school holidays, and over the summer holiday closures. Full fees will be charged for the remainder of the time.
Early/ late fees - please ensure your child is dropped off and picked up within their enrolled times to avoid these fees.
For help with fees, families may be eligible for the Work & Income NZ (WINZ) childcare subsidy, and/or Inland Revenue's (IRD) Family Boost scheme. To see if you are eligible, please contact WINZ and the IRD directly.
Do you provide ECE funding?
We provide 20 hours ECE higher subsidy funding for all tamariki 3 years and older. An attestation form is required, which is part of the enrolment form. Our 3 years and older fees include the 20 hours higher subsidy funding.
If your child is absent from NBCP for a continuous three week period the preschool is not able to claim funding for absences from the Ministry of Education. Absences that continue into the fourth week and beyond can mean your child’s space is withdrawn. Please ensure you speak to the Centre Director if you need to be away for more than three weeks.
Tamariki with special rights or health problems may need to be absent for long periods longer than three weeks. The Preschool may be able to apply for an exemption to the three week rule for these children, from the Ministry of Education. Once again please see the Centre Director if you need clarification for your child in this area.
